MUMBAI, India, Sept. 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641064118 A) filed by Srm Institute Of Science And Technology Tiruchirappalli on May 21, 2026, for Real Time Helmet Detction System For Two-Wheeler Riders.
Inventors include Tejaswi Ts; and Dr. V. Rajesh.
The application for the patent was published on September 04, 2026, under issue no. 36/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an Artificial Intelligence–based real-time helmet and vehicle number plate detection system for two-wheeler safety enforcement. The system utilizes a YOLO (You Only Look Once) deep learning object detection algorithm implemented using Python and the Keras framework to automatically identify whether a rider is wearing a helmet. The invention comprises an image acquisition module, preprocessing unit, helmet detection module, decision module, number plate detection module, Optical Character Recognition (OCR) module, and a data storage system. Upon detecting a helmet violation, the system automatically extracts the vehicle registration number and records the violation details. The proposed invention eliminates manual monitoring, improves enforcement accuracy, reduces processing time, and supports smart traffic management infrastructure.
