MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641105491 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences on September 02, 2026, for Real-Time Hand Gesture Controlled Device System Using Computer Vision And Arduino.
Inventors include Amrissh P; Dr. P. Vijayaragavan; and Dr Ramya Mohan.
The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.
Abstract: The project titled "Computer Vision Based Hand Gesture Controlled Device System Using Python and Arduino" presents an innovative and cost-effective approach to control electronic devices using natural hand gestures. The system uses a webcam to capture real-time video input and processes it using computer vision techniques with Python, OpenCV, and CVZone libraries. The hand gesture recognition model detects finger positions and counts the number of fingers shown by the user. Based on this input, signals are sent from Python to an Arduino microcontroller using PyFirmata through serial communication. The Arduino then controls multiple output devices such as LEDs accordingly. The key feature of this system is its touchless interaction, which in convenience, hygiene, and user experience. The modular design allows easy expansion to control more devices or integrate with smart home systems. This project demonstrates real-time interaction between software and hardware, showcasing the practical application of computer vision in automation. The system can be further extended to control household appliances, assist elderly or physically challenged individuals, and integrate with IoT platforms for advanced automation. This makes it a scalable and efficient solution for modern smart environments.
