MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611110552 A) filed by Central University Of Punjab on September 15, 2026, for Real-Time Fog Detection And Object Recognition System For Vehicles Using Multi-Sensor Environmental Perception And A Method Thereof.

Inventors include Dr. Meenakshi; Dr. Sunny Behal; Dr. Anam Bansal; Devraj Singh; Parneet Kaur; Mohammad Wasif; Er. Ankit Kumar; and Mohammed Ashif. C. K.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an object detection and driver assistance system (100) and a method (200) for assisting operation of a vehicle under degraded visibility conditions. The system (100) comprises an image acquisition device (102), at least one LiDAR sensor (104), at least one ultrasonic sensor (106), and at least one processor (108) configured to determine a visibility metric, detect roadway objects, generate visibility-adapted confidence values, validate the confidence values using independently acquired distance information, suppress invalid detections, and generate driver assistance information without feature-level fusion of image and distance data. The method (200) comprises acquiring (202) image data, determining (204) a weighted fog score, detecting (206) roadway objects, acquiring (208) distance information, modifying (210) and validating (212) confidence values, suppressing (214) invalid detections, and generating (216) driver assistance information for reliable real-time operation under degraded visibility conditions. FIG. 1 will be the reference figure.
