Abstract: The present application relates to the technical field of wireless communications. Provided are a random access method and apparatus, which are used for improving the reliability of random access. In the method, a terminal device receives configuration information from a network device, the configuration information being used for indicating a first number of times and a first random access resource corresponding to the first number of times, wherein the first random access resource and the first number of times correspond to N beams, the first number of times is greater than 1, and N is an integer greater than 1; and the terminal device sends a first preamble on the basis of the N beams and the first random access resource, wherein the number of times the first preamble is sent in the N beams is the first number of times. On the basis of the solution, the terminal device can send a random access preamble by means of a plurality of beams, and compared with sending a random access preamble by means of a single beam, the solution can improve the uplink coverage and improve the reliability of random access.
