Abstract: ABSTRACT RAILWAY INFRASTRUCTURE CONDITION MONITORING SYSTEM USING EVIDENCE DEBT FOR ADAPTIVE PHYSICAL INTERROGATION A railway infrastructure condition monitoring system (100) includes sensing platforms (102), such as a moving train (104), a fixed sensor (106), an inspection vehicle (108) and portable sensing equipment (110), that acquire physical observations of railway infrastructure. A registration unit (114) registers each observation to one of a plurality of persistent spatial cells representing a railway network. A processor (116) maintains, for each cell, a condition state updated from the registered observations. An evidentiary-support unit (130) maintains an evidentiary-support state independently of the condition state, based on observation quality and elapsed time, and reduces the evidentiary-support state as elapsed time increases without a new observation while the condition state is retained unchanged. An evidence-debt unit (132) accumulates a deficiency between a target evidentiary-support level and the evidentiary-support state over time as an evidence debt, and generates a physical-interrogation trigger when the evidence debt reaches a predetermined decision condition.
