MUMBAI, India, Aug. 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641091021 A) filed by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham on July 27, 2026, for Radiomics-Guided Cross-Attention Fusion For Severity Grading Of Diabetic Retinopathy.
Inventors include Bajpai, Ansh; Shah, Nishant; and Surendran, Simi.
The application for the patent was published on July 31, 2026, under issue no. 31/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a system (100) and a method (400) for severity grading of diabetic retinopathy from a retinal fundus image (102). The system (100) includes a multi-backbone extraction stage (112) that yields multiple visual embeddings through distinct neural backbones (112-2, 112-4, 112-6), a radiomics encoder (118) that yields a query token from a radiomics feature vector (114), a projection stage (116) that yields a projected embedding from each visual embedding without concatenation, a cross-attention fusion engine (120) that yields a fused token under the query token, and a dual prediction head (124) that yields a class logit and a cumulative threshold value for a severity grade (126). Unlike a conventional single-backbone approach that confuses an adjacent grade, this approach conditions a fusion upon a clinical cue, and thereby supports an interpretable diabetic retinopathy screening.
