MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621060016 A) filed by Svkm Nmims School Of Pharmacy And Technology Management, Shirpur Campus on May 11, 2026, for Quercetin Conjugated Polymer For Brain-Targeted Drug Delivery And Method Of Synthesis Thereof.
Inventors include Dr Devendra Kumar; and Mr Gaurav Mahajan.
The application for the patent was published on July 10, 2026, under issue no. 28/2026.
Abstract: A quercetin conjugated polymer for brain-targeted drug delivery comprises a polyethyleneimine backbone comprising primary amine groups and secondary amine groups, aspartic acid covalently attached to the polyethyleneimine backbone through an amide bond, quercetin conjugated to the aspartic acid moiety through an ester linkage, and a polyethylene glycol chain conjugated to the polyethyleneimine backbone through an amide bond via a succinic acid linker derived from succinic anhydride. A method of synthesizing the quercetin conjugated polymer comprises pre-treating polyethylene glycol by drying under vacuum, activating the pre- treated polyethylene glycol with succinic anhydride to form mPEG-COOH, activating polyethyleneimine with an amino acid to form a PEI-amino acid intermediate, conjugating quercetin to the PEI-amino acid intermediate to form a PEI-quercetin conjugate, conjugating mPEG-COOH to the PEI-quercetin conjugate, and extracting and purifying the polymer conjugate.
