MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641110404 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on September 15, 2026, for Quantum-Inspired Self-Adaptive Network Anomaly Detector.

Inventors include Dr. Harshita Patel; Shah Kevin Ketan; and Jay Kabra.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses an adaptive network anomaly detection system and method, referred to as Quantum Suspicion-Adaptive Network Detection (Q-SAND), for improving cybersecurity by dynamically identifying malicious network traffic. The system employs an XGBoost-based machine learning model to analyze network packet features and generate packet-level suspicion scores indicative of potential threats. A Quantum Tunneling Threshold Adapter (QTTA) continuously evaluates temporal trends in the suspicion scores and adaptively adjusts the anomaly detection threshold based on quantum tunneling-inspired principles, wherein network noise is modeled as a potential barrier and cumulative suspicion is modeled as tunneling energy. During normal network operation, the threshold is increased to minimize false positive alerts, whereas upon detection of suspicious traffic trends, the threshold is lowered to identify stealthy and low-and-slow attacks that evade conventional static threshold-based systems. The invention thereby enhances detection accuracy, reduces alert fatigue, provides interpretable security decisions, and enables robust real-time deployment across diverse network environments
