MUMBAI, India, Aug. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611077562 A) filed by Dr Vijay Sharma; Deepti Aggarwal; and Dr Ram Dayal on June 23, 2026, for Quality By Design-Based Optimization Of Felodipine Liposomal Pastilles Using Pvp-Peg Polymeric Composite For Enhanced Bioavailability.

Inventors include Dr Vijay Sharma; Deepti Aggarwal; and Dr Ram Dayal.

The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a Quality by Design (Quality by Design ) enabled liposomal pastille formulation for enhancing the Bioavailability and patient compliance of Felodipine. A PVP-PEG solid dispersion polymeric composite containing Felodipine was prepared by solvent evaporation to improve aqueous solubility and dissolution. The solid dispersion was encapsulated within liposomes comprising soya lecithin and cholesterol using a solvent injection method. Formulation optimization was performed using a 3² Central Composite Design, wherein phospholipid concentration and stabilizer concentration served as independent variables, while particle size, drug content, entrapment efficiency, and drug release were evaluated as responses. The optimized liposomes exhibited a particle size of 1.41±0.12 µm, drug content of 94.323%, entrapment efficiency of 69.61%, in vitro drug release of 70.73%, and ex vivo drug release of 66.88%. The optimized liposomal formulation was incorporated into gelatin-based pastilles containing tamarind gum, providing 99.88% drug release within one-hour, enhanced bioadhesion, and long-term stability.
