MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641113210 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Information Technology Design And Manufacturing Kurnool on September 22, 2026, for Quadcopter System And Method For Welding Defect Detection In Pre-Engineered Building Structures.

Inventors include Dr. Putha Kishore; Dr. Ravi Kumar Mandavar; Dr. Vinod Yeldho Baby; H. Sumitha; Dr. N. Amaranatha Reddy; and B. Shravani.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: The quadcopter system (100) for welding defect detection in pre-engineered buildings features a frame (102) with rotors (104), a mast-mounted GPS (106), a imaging unit (110), a battery (112), and a flight-control stack (114). Supported by extended landing gear (124), a downward payload mount (116) carries three horizontal spray containers (118a,118b,118c): a cleaner, a dye penetrant, and a developer.Three servo actuators (120a,120b,120c) sequentially actuate these containers to perform automated dye penetrant testing. Simultaneously, an onboard AI-based defect detection module (122) processes images captured by the imaging unit (110) to accurately identify and classify critical welding defects, including cracks, porosity, spatter, burn-through, and excess reinforcement, ensuring comprehensive structural quality control.
