The application for the patent was published on June 05, 2026, under issue no. 23/2026.

Abstract: Provided is a method for purifying N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, with which impurities and water can be properly separated and removed. Specifically provided is a purification method for purifying a raw material containing N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone and water and also containing, as impurities, a low-boiling-point amine and methyl succinimide, the purification method comprising: a first distillation step for distilling the raw material in a first distillation column (122), releasing a vapor containing the low-boiling-point amine from a column top, and draining a post-dehydration raw material, which is a dehydrated raw material, from a column bottom; and a second distillation step for distilling the post-dehydration raw material in a second distillation column (131), releasing a vapor containing the low-boiling-point amine from a column top, draining a liquid containing the methyl succinimide from a column bottom, and drawing an N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone-enriched purified composition from a side cut nozzle. In the method, the temperatures of the materials to be distilled respectively in the first distillation step and the second distillation step are adjusted to lower than 160°C.
