MUMBAI, India, June 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202514099417 A) filed by Distance Technologies Oy on October 14, 2025, for Pseudo-Holographic Display Using Collimated Backlight And Dynamic Beam Steering.
Inventor includes Mikko Strandborg.
The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.
Abstract: For a given region of a liquid crystal display (LCD) device (102) and a given viewing direction, colour values of an imaginary light ray that originates from at least one virtual object (134) along the given viewing direction and that is to be presented by the given region of the LCD device are determined. This LCD device comprises a backlight unit (108) that is configured to produce collimated light rays (110). A drive signal is generated and sent to control the given region of the LCD device to emit light rays having the colour values of said imaginary light ray. A corresponding portion (104a) of an active optical element (104) arranged on an optical path of the backlight unit is controlled, to direct said light rays along the given viewing direction. The aforesaid steps are repeated for respective ones of different viewing directions (A, B, C, D), by employing temporal multiplexing. FIG. 1B
