MUMBAI, India, June 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641070527 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai on June 05, 2026, for Proximity-Aware Adaptive Communication System And Method For An Internet Of Things Node.

Inventors include Nirmala Paramanandham; Nukilan J; and Lalith Kishore M.

The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a proximity-aware adaptive communication system (100) and method for an internet of things (IoT) node (102). The system (100) enables protocol allocation with a peer IoT node (104). A bluetooth low energy (BLE) scan module (110) obtains received signal strength indicator (RSSI) samples, and an RSSI circular buffer (120) stores the samples in a sliding-window format. A signal-analysis block (126) derives RSSI trend and variance values, and an inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensor module (150) provides inertial measurements. A motion detection unit (160) generates a motion-validation output, and an adaptive decision engine (170) with a hysteresis controller (180) generates a stabilized protocol-selection state. A protocol selector (190) configures a wireless communication module (300) to assign message queuing telemetry transport (MQTT) to an uplink data path (302) and constrained application protocol (CoAP) to a downlink command path (304) during an edge state.
