Abstract: Techniques are described for wireless communications. For example, a device can transmit, to passive devices, a transmit signal with a first phase. The device can receive, from each passive device, a respective response signal based on the transmit signal and determine, based on a difference between the first phase and a respective phase of each respective response signal, distances for the passive devices. The device can determine a respective confidence level for each respective distance of each passive device to the device based on a variance of the respective phase of each respective response signal. The device can compare the respective distance of each passive device with each other distance to determine a passive device with a smallest distance. The device can output contextual information based on the passive devices first having the smallest distance, with a confidence level determined for a distance from the passive device to the device.
