Inventors include Mrs. Shivani Lodha; Dr. Shahbaz Khan; Ms. Priyanka Rana; Mr. Akshat Kashyap; Mr. Peeyush Srivastava; Mrs. Shipra Sharma; Dr. Iyman Binti Fayaz; and Mrs. Kalpana Singh.
The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a nephroprotective pharmaceutical composition comprising a luteolin-enriched ethanolic extract of Bidens pilosa leaves for the prevention and treatment of cisplatin-induced acute renal toxicity. The extract is standardised to contain total phenolic content of 2.01 plus or minus 0.3 gallic acid equivalents and total flavonoid content of 0.88 plus or minus 0.5 quercetin equivalents, with luteolin identified as the predominant bioactive flavonoid. The composition demonstrates complete safety with no toxicity up to 2000 milligrams per kilogram body weight. In a Wistar rat model of cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity, the composition at 400 milligrams per kilogram significantly attenuates cisplatin-induced elevations in serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, uric acid, alkaline phosphatase, transaminases, bilirubin, and lactate dehydrogenase while restoring serum protein levels. Histopathological analysis confirms marked renal tissue preservation.
