Abstract: A propane-ammonia blended propellant combustion system for aerospace applications comprises a can-type combustion chamber with inlet, main cylindrical body, and outlet sections. A fuel injection assembly at the inlet includes ten fuel jets (diameter approximately 1.7 mm) circumferentially spaced around a 90-degree cone at the swirler center. Gaseous propane-ammonia fuel blend is supplied wherein propane enhances flame stability through fast ignition and stable anchoring, while ammonia reduces carbon emissions. An optimal blend ratio of approximately 50% propane and 50% ammonia by volume minimizes nitric oxide emissions while maintaining combustion stability and generating hydrogen from incomplete ammonia combustion for auxiliary energy extraction. The system is validated through computational fluid dynamics analysis employing Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations with k-omega SST turbulence model, suitable for atmospheric and non-atmospheric aerospace propulsion.
