Abstract: TITLE: PROCESS OF PREPARING ASHWAGANDHA-FUNCTIONALIZED TITANIUM NANOCOMPOSITE IMPLANT SURFACES FOR PREVENTION OF PERI-IMPLANTITIS APPLICANT: 1. MEENAKSHI ACADEMY OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND RESEARCH 2. MEENAKSHI AMMAL DENTAL COLLEGE AND HOSPITAL ABSTRACT The present invention discloses a process of preparing a titanium dental implant having a nanostructured surface functionalized with Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha), comprising: a. providing a titanium implant substrate and subjecting to acid etching with hydrofluoric acid and rinsing with distilled water followed by ethanol to generate etched titanium surface; b. dissolving lyophilized Withania somnifera root powder in glacial acetic acid, followed by filtration and subjecting the filtrate to ultrasonication to obtain Ashwagandha nanoparticles solution; c. depositing the Ashwagandha nanoparticles solution onto the etched titanium surface by dip coating, followed by air drying to form coated surface; d. stabilizing the coated surface by thermal treatment to obtain titanium dental implant having a nanostructured surface functionalized with Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha). The present invention also discloses a titanium dental implant having a nanostructured surface functionalized with Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha), prepared by the process as described above.
