MUMBAI, India, June 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641072082 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on June 10, 2026, for Process For Synthesis Of Algal Exopolysaccharide-Modified Graphene Nanomaterials.
Inventors include Mrudula Pulimi; and Abhrajit Debroy.
The application for the patent was published on June 19, 2026, under issue no. 25/2026.
Abstract: A process for synthesis of algal exopolysaccharide-modified graphene nanomaterials is provided. The process includes obtaining an exopolysaccharide composition from microalgal biomass by isolating and combining a loosely bound extracellular polymeric fraction and a tightly bound extracellular polymeric fraction, preparing a dispersion comprising graphite flakes, the exopolysaccharide composition, an organic solvent, and water, subjecting the dispersion to sonication to simultaneously exfoliate the graphite flakes and functionalize the exfoliated graphene with the exopolysaccharide composition, separating unexfoliated graphite material from the sonicated dispersion to obtain a supernatant containing exfoliated graphene material, and recovering the exfoliated graphene material from the supernatant to obtain algal exopolysaccharide-modified graphene nanomaterials.
