Abstract: The present invention provides a process (100) and an apparatus (200) for producing continuous ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) nanofibres. The process comprises feeding a highly entangled UHMWPE spinning composition through an earthed spinneret (205) positioned within a heat chamber (203) maintaining controlled dry thermal conditions, and directing an auxiliary flow comprising air, gas or steam through a dedicated nozzle (204) at or adjacent an extrusion region. The localized auxiliary flow provides thermo-fluidic conditioning and aerodynamic dragging to promote initial breakup and attenuation of the UHMWPE gel jet. An electric field established between the earthed spinneret and a negatively charged rotating window collector (206) subsequently electrostatically pulls, stretches and progressively attenuates the polymeric structures. Solvent evaporation occurs during jet transport, reducing residual solvent in the deposited fibres. The rotating collector facilitates continuous deposition and formation of a nanofibrous web. The process enables continuous UHMWPE nanofibres having diameters of approximately 500 nm to 2 µm. (Figure 2 shall be the abstract figure)
