Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel process for the preparation of [amorphous activated carbon from black liquor-derived lignocellulosic material for electrochemical energy storage applications. The invention involves the controlled neutralization of black liquor !using sulfuric acid to pH 7, followed by centrifugation and filtration to obtain a carbon-rich precursor solution. The filtered precursor is then subjected to carbonization at 500 oc for 1 hour in a muffle furnace, resulting in the formation of porous amorphous activated carbon with enhanced surface functionality. The prepared carbon material exhibits desirable ·physicochemical and electrochemical properties suitable for use as an electrode material in supercapacitors. The developed process enables efficient conversion of industrial black liquor waste into value-added carbon material, thereby promoting waste valorization and sustainable energy storage technology. The obtained activated carbon demonstrates good charge storage capability, ion transport characteristics, and cyclic stability as confirmed by CV, GCD, and EIS studies. This invention provides a cost-effective, eco-friendly, and scalable method for transforming lignocellulosic waste streams into high-performance carbon electrode materials, offering significant potential for application in next-generation supercapacitor devices and other electrochemical energy storage systems.
