Abstract: A process for the isolation of ethylene glycol and propylene glycol from a glycol mixture, which ethylene glycol and propylene glycol have a reduced amount of pentanediol. The process comprises fractional distillation of the glycol mixture to separate the majority of ethylene glycol and propylene glycol, with subsequent extractive distillation using an entrainer to remove 1,2-pentanediol from ethylene glycol and (2R,3S) 2,3-pentanediol and/or (2S,3R) 2,3-pentanediol from propylene glycol.
