MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611088509 A) filed by K. R. Mangalam University on July 20, 2026, for Process For Converting Cacao Husk Into A Bioactive-Retaining Textile Fibre And Yarn.
Inventors include Indrajeet Kumar; and Rajesh Kumar.
The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.
Abstract: Cacao husk (10) is cleaned, dried and comminuted, then treated in stages with cellulase (30) limited to surface defibrillation, with pectinase (32) to hydrolyse the middle lamella (16) binding the elementary fibres (14), and with laccase (34) to oxidise the lignin (18), each stage at its own optimum and none using alkali or bleach. The fibre is separated and washed only so far as to remove spent enzyme. Because none of the enzymes acts upon them, the polyphenolic and alkaloidal constituents (22) of the husk remain upon the fibre (40), which is therefore antibacterial and ultraviolet-attenuating without any applied agent, while the spaces left by the removed lignin form the nano-porous structure (42) that wick moisture.
