Abstract: The present invention relates to a pressure responsive pedestrian footpath hazard barrier with an automatic reset mechanism, configured to provide automatic protection to pedestrians approaching a localised hazard on a footpath. The system comprises a pressure sensing assembly installed along the approach zone of the footpath adjacent to a designated hazard area, a barrier assembly mounted on support posts at opposite sides of the footpath and movable between a retracted standby position and a deployed blocking position, and an actuation mechanism coupling the pressure sensing assembly to the barrier assembly. Upon sensing a pedestrian load exceeding a predetermined threshold, the pressure sensing assembly actuates the barrier assembly to deploy a barrier arm across the footpath, thereby physically preventing the pedestrian from entering the hazardous area. The barrier assembly incorporates a return spring and a damping element configured to regulate the speed of deployment and retraction for controlled operation and reduced injury risk. An automatic reset mechanism returns the barrier arm to the retracted standby position when the sensed pedestrian condition subsides or after a preset time interval, without requiring manual intervention. The system may further comprise visual and audible warning indicators for providing additional warning to approaching pedestrians. The integrated arrangement provides continuous, low-maintenance, and non obstructive protection at footpath hazards while enabling rapid retrofitting at temporary or permanent hazard locations.
