Abstract: The present invention relates to novel pyridin-3-yl quinolin-2(1H)-one compound of formula (I) and its pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof as anti-viral agents. The compound of formula (I) and its derivatives exhibit potent antiviral activity and are effective inhibitors of the SARS-CoV-2 main protease (Mpro). Further, the present invention provides a process for the preparation of the pyridin-3-yl quinolin-2(1H)-one compounds of formula (I) for the effective treatment of viral infections mediated by main protease (Mpro) activity of COVID-19 coronavirus infections. The invention therefore provides a new class of quinolinone-based antiviral agents with promising therapeutic applications against viral infections.
