Abstract: ABSTRACT PREDICTIVE OBD-II CONNECTOR WEAR DETECTION USING CAN TELEMETRY ANALYSIS A method for predictive detection of physical wear and contact-resistance degradation in an OBD-II connector (100) of a motor vehicle (200) is provided. The method is performed by a microcontroller (300) coupled to a CAN transceiver (310) and an SAE J1962-compliant OBD-II interface (320). The method comprises: acquiring CAN frames from the OBD-II connector (100), each frame including at least one of an error flag, a retry count, and an inter-arrival timestamp; mapping a byte-offset of each detected CAN frame error to a physical pin via a deterministic pin-role mapping to produce a per-pin error-attribution vector; extracting voltage-statistical features from OBD-II Mode 01 parameter identification data and computing a sensorless contact-resistance estimate; classifying a wear state into discrete wear stages using a machine-learning model; and modulating a retry interval of the CAN transceiver (310) based on the classified wear state to produce a control action.
