MUMBAI, India, Aug. 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541087099 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Madras Iit Madras on September 12, 2025, for Predictive Handover Optimization Using Precomputed Radio Resource Measurements In Communication Networks.
Inventors include Ganti, Radhakrishna; Ganesan, Rakkesh; Yerrapragada, Anil Kumar; and Sattianarayanin, Jeeva Keshav.
The application for the patent was published on August 21, 2026, under issue no. 34/2026.
Abstract: A system (102) and method (500) for predictive handover in a wireless communication network are disclosed. The method enables proactive mobility management by utilizing Radio Resource Measurement (RRM) data received by a User Equipment (UE) from a serving base station. Based on the UE’s current position, direction, and movement characteristics, the UE determines a projected travel path across the area. Prior to physically traversing the projected path, the UE analyzes the RRM data along the predicted trajectory to identify a candidate handover base point. Subsequently, a virtual trigger detection condition is evaluated at locations beyond the handover base point to determine an optimal handover event. Using this predictive analysis, the UE identifies a predicted handover location and selects a target base station for seamless transfer of connectivity, thereby improving overall network performance.
