Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a predictive communication network resilience framework that can proactively mitigate the degradation of communication links due to severe atmospheric disturbances. They use meteorological-derived environmental parameters to feed into a physics-based propagation model that is used to convert the atmospheric information to communication-specific estimates of attenuation. The framework also includes a survival prediction engine that is tailored to predict possible degradation hazards for future timescales, and an adaptive routing module that is tailored to adjust network routing based on the predicted hazards. The present invention allows for the detection of potentially weak communication links before they fail and allows for proactive network reconfiguration before the communication link fails, while reactive network protocols only adjust network configuration after the quality of communication is compromised. The invention combines features of atmospheric intelligence, physics-based estimation of attenuation, prediction of the survival of the communication network, and independent path optimization to provide a single framework for enhancing communication network reliability and resilience during severe weather events.
