MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611088545 A) filed by K. R. Mangalam University on July 20, 2026, for Precision Irrigation Apparatus With Hysteresis-Band Moisture Control.
Inventors include Naomi Yadav; Debasmita Palai; and Dr. Rakhi Dua.
The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.
Abstract: Disclosed is an irrigation apparatus, and a method and medium for controlling it, that supplies water by soil moisture while avoiding rapid pump cycling. A soil moisture sensor senses the moisture of a soil, a pump supplies water, and a switch couples the pump. A controller energises the pump when the sensed moisture falls below a lower threshold and de-energises it when the sensed moisture rises above an upper threshold spaced above the lower threshold, so once energised the pump runs until the soil is adequately moist and once de-energised stays off until the soil is again dry. Because the pump switches off at a higher moisture than that at which it switches on, it does not cycle rapidly as the moisture fluctuates, conserving water and energy. The thresholds are configurable, multiple zones may each be irrigated by their own sensor, and the apparatus may be solar powered.
