Abstract: A power-off data preservation system for a host computing unit and method thereof, comprises of an interface coupled with a host computing unit, a power monitor circuit 101 to detect loss of power from a power rail 107 of the host computing unit, a backup power source to supply backup power to the system upon detection of the loss of power, a direct memory access (DMA) engine 103 to capture at least a portion of volatile memory of the host computing unit while powered by the backup power source, a register capture unit to capture CPU register states of the host computing unit, a non-volatile memory 104 for storing the captured volatile memory contents and the captured CPU register states, a timestamping unit 105 to record time of detected power-off, and a cryptographic sealing unit 106 to generate a cryptographic seal of captured data prior to complete loss of power.
