Abstract: Power Amplifier protection against mismatch in load termination using current consumption and lookup table data that involves characterization of current sensor data, under various VSWR conditions (2:1, 3:1, open, and short). As the Airborne power amplifier is subjected to stringent operational conditions, the current sensor data is characterized across different supply voltages, temperatures, and output power conditions. This data is stored in a lookup table, which is used in real-time to determine the changing VSWR pattern and protect the amplifier without the need for traditional components such as Dual Directional Couplers (DDCs) or isolators. The method improves the power amplifier’s efficiency while achieving the cost and size benefit.
