Abstract: Provided is an iron ore capable of shortening reduction time during reduction of iron ore by a hydrogen reduction method. A powdery iron ore according to the present invention satisfies requirements (A), (B), (C), and (D) below. (A) The average particle diameter is 1.0 µm to 5.0 mm. (B) The surface area ratio (surface area / outer surface area as determined by nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms) is 20 to 400. (C) The pore volume ratio determined by the nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms is 20 to 400. (D) The molar ratio (O/Fe) of the amount of O to the amount of Fe is 1.35 to 1.55.
