MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641075990 A) filed by Kalasalingam Academy Of Research And Education on June 19, 2026, for Portble Precision Drill Bit Flank Regrinding Machine Adjustable Collet And Angular Grinding Mechanism.
Inventors include Dr. S. Shasi Anand; and Dr. P. Jayakumar.
The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.
Abstract: The titled invention discloses a portable precision drill bit flank regrinding machine designed to restore the cutting efficiency of drill bits by accurately regrinding their flank 5 edges. The machine has a base frame (1) supporting a headstock (2) housing a highspeed motor (7) that drives a grinding wheel (8) mounted on a spindle (9), said grinding wheel (8) being dressed to a predefined included angle corresponding to standard drill geometry. A linear carriage (4) mounted on guide rails (3) is actuated by a lead screw mechanism (5) through a hand wheel (6) to provide controlled feed toward the grinding 10 wheel (8). A drill holding assembly including an adjustable collet (1 0), a rotary holder (11), and a swiveling table (13) enables secure clamping, controlled rotation, and precise angular positioning of drill bits of varying diameters. The system is further provided with a linear scale (16) and an angular scale (14) for accurate measurement, and a proximity sensor (17) with an indicator (18) for over-travel detection to ensure 15 safe operation. The invention offers a compact, efficient, and user-friendly solution for precise and repeatable sharpening of drill bits, thereby enhancing tool life and machining performance.
