Abstract: A UV—Visible spectrometer is an important analytical instrument used to measure the absorbance of ultraviolet and visible light by chemical samples. Traditional laboratory spectrometers are bulky, expensive, and require controlled environments, which limits their usage in field applications. This project presents the design and development of a portable UV—Vis spectrometer that can perform real-time spectral analysis outside laboratory environments. The system is built using a microcontroller, light source, diffraction grating, optical sensor, and display interface The device works by passing UV or visible light through a sample solution. The transmitted light is detected by a photodiode sensor and processed by the microcontroller to calculate absorbance values. These values help determine the concentration of substances in the sample according to the Beer—Lambert Law. The developed portable spectrometer is compact, cost-effective, and suitable for applications such as environmental monitoring, chemical analysis, water quality testing, and educational laboratories. Keywords: UV—Vis spectroscopy, portable spectrometer, optical sensing, Beer—Lambert law, microcontroller.
