Abstract: A portable retinal screening device (100) for diabetic retinopathy detection is disclosed. The device comprises a housing including a sliding head case (102), an interface section (104), and an ergonomic gripping section (106). The sliding head case (102) houses an optical imaging assembly comprising an objective lens assembly (108), a camera module (110), and an illumination module (112) configured to acquire retinal fundus images. An embedded processing unit (114) preprocesses the acquired images and executes an on-device artificial intelligence model to detect diabetic retinopathy. A display module (118) mounted on the interface section presents retinal images and diagnostic results, while a communication interface (130) located on the gripping section enables charging and data transfer. The sliding head case is longitudinally adjustable to vary the optical working distance for image focusing, thereby providing a compact handheld point-of-care retinal screening device capable of real-time, on-device diabetic retinopathy assessment.
