Abstract: The present disclosure discloses a Portable Residual Current Device (PRCD) for identifying faults and method thereof. The PRCD comprises a line conductor and a neutral conductor connectable to an external power supply, a relay configured to selectively connect and disconnect the conductors, and a plurality of fault detection circuits for detecting at least one fault condition including earth leakage, over-voltage, or over-temperature. The PRCD further includes a buck converter that is selectively enabled upon detection of a fault and provides power to a relay driver for actuating the relay. During normal operation, the buck converter and relay driver remain disabled to minimize standby power, and the relay stays closed to allow normal operation. Upon fault detection, the relay opens to disconnect the conductors from the supply. [Figure 2]
