Abstract: The present invention relates to a portable paper-based microfluidic electrochemical biosensor system (100) for real-time wireless detection and classification of microbial contamination in a water sample. The system (100) comprises a disposable paper-based microfluidic sensing strip (1), a sample inlet region (2), a detection region (3), a chitosan coating (4), a bromophenol blue indicator (5), an electrode region (6), a pair of microelectrodes (7), a multi-walled carbon nanotube-chitosan composite conductive layer (8), a signal acquisition module (9), a voltage divider circuit (10), a microcontroller (11), a firmware-based processing unit (12), a wireless communication module (13), and an external monitoring device (14). The sensing strip (1) transports the water sample by capillary action through the detection region (3) and electrode region (6), where microbial contamination changes ionic conductivity and strip resistance. The microcontroller (11) calculates voltage and resistance values, applies signal filtering and classifies the sample as a Normal Sample or Contaminated Sample. The wireless communication module (13) transmits the result through a Bluetooth communication unit (18) to a mobile terminal (20) and through a Wi-Fi communication unit (19) to a cloud-based monitoring dashboard (21). The system provides low-cost, portable, disposable-strip-based and real-time water quality monitoring without laboratory infrastructure.
