MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641105305 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai on September 01, 2026, for Portable Ophthalmic System And Method For Real-Time Classification And Risk Prediction Of Glaucoma Stages.

Inventors include Suchetha M; and Jim Elliot C.

The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a portable point of care ophthalmic system (100) for real-time classification and risk prediction of glaucoma stages in real time. The system (100) includes an ophthalmic data acquisition unit (102) operable in discrete and continuous modes, with temporal segmentation into pre light, light response, and post light intervals. Pupillary dynamics are captured using a camera and light circuit (204), with data stored in CSV format and processed in parallel. An edge computing unit (104) extracts temporal features, including maximum and minimum pupil size, constriction and dilation velocity, and calculates statistical features, including latency, amplitude, and percentage change. The statistical features are used to compute a pupillometric index and classify glaucoma stages and predict risk progression using a machine learning model based on the pupillometric index. The system (100) delivers instant diagnostic outcomes via a visualization unit (110), providing real time results without requiring completion of the entire acquisition session.
