MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641057556 A) filed by Srm Dental College Ramapuram on May 06, 2026, for Portable Multi-Modal Optical Screening Device With Integrated Polarization And Diffuse Reflectance Imaging For Early Detection Of Oral And Skin Lesions.

Inventors include Dr Sireetha R; Dr Kaviya S; and Dr Ramesh Kumar A.

The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a portable optical diagnostic device for non-invasive screening of epithelial tissues, including oral and skin regions. The device integrates copolarized and cross-polarized imaging with diffuse reflectance imaging in a compact handheld platform. A multi-wavelength illumination module enables depth-sensitive tissue assessment. The system captures polarization-resolved and reflectance images using a digital sensor and polarization filtering assembly. A processing unit computes structural biomarkers such as depolarization ratio, polarization entropy, and anisotropy to assess tissue microstructure. Vascular parameters including vessel density, tortuosity, branching, and fractal dimension are also extracted. A wavelength-weighted pseudodepth score is generated based on penetration characteristics. These biomarkers are fused to produce a composite diagnostic risk score for early lesion detection. The device is lowcost, portable, and suitable for point-bf-care screening without complex instrumentation.o
