Abstract: Disclosed is a portable hybrid apparatus for removing pulp from wet cocoa beans while partially roasting them. The apparatus comprises an inclined cylindrical chamber, fabricated from food-grade stainless steel, having an inlet and outlet for cocoa seeds. A centrally mounted shaft, driven by a generator-powered motor at 20–40 rpm, carries nylon brushes radially spaced at 90-degree intervals that mechanically dislodge pulp from the seeds. One or more battery-powered hot-air blowers, mounted along the chamber, deliver heated air at 85–110°C, causing dislodged pulp to fall while partially roasting the beans. A perforated sheet at the chamber base separates pulp from seeds, channelling it into a collector for reuse or disposal. By decoupling the mechanical drive from the thermal sub-system's power source, the apparatus enables off-grid operation, reducing processing time compared to conventional sun- drying while improving bean yield, uniformity and quality for decentralized, small-scale cocoa farming operations.
