MUMBAI, India, June 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621048647 A) filed by Sage University on April 16, 2026, for Portable Handheld Apparatus And Method For Real-Time Three-Dimensional Forensic Scene Documentation.
Inventors include Ms. Sakshi Agrawal; Dr. Prashant Jain; Prof. Vishnu Patidar; Anuradha Prajapati; and Saloni Rathore.
The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT The present disclosure relates to portable handheld apparatus and methods for real-time three-dimensional forensic scene documentation. The portable handheld apparatus (102) includes a laser detection array (104) that acquires distance measurements by sweeping laser beams through a full horizontal rotation. A hardware processor (106), coupled to a camera assembly (108) and motion sensing circuit (110), fuses distance measurements, visual odometry data, and motion data via a filter circuit (112) to determine position and orientation of the apparatus (102) and generate a point cloud dataset. Each voxel of the point cloud dataset is classified into a coverage category based on point density, and a coverage map is rendered on a display (114). Touch input signals received from the display (114) allow extraction of touch coordinates, whereupon ray-casting applied against current pose estimate of the filter circuit (112) computes a three-dimensional position and generates a timestamped evidence marker record at that position.
