MUMBAI, India, June 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621047954 A) filed by Sage University on April 15, 2026, for Portable Handheld Apparatus And Method For Contactless Fingerprint Acquisition.
Inventors include Ms. Sakshi Agrawal; Dr. Prashant Jain; Prof. Anjali Dewda; Sandeep; and Muskan.
The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT The present disclosure relates to portable handheld apparatus and method for contactless fingerprint acquisition. The apparatus (100) includes a dual- wavelength illumination assembly (102) that illuminates an evidence surface at a working distance and induces fluorescence emission from fingerprint ridge deposits. An optical imaging assembly (104) incorporates an optical long pass filter (106) and an image sensor (108), where the long pass filter (106) transmits fluorescence emission to the image sensor (108) while blocking reflected illumination. A hardware processor (110) with an onboard neural processing unit (112) energizes the illumination assembly (102), receives fluorescence-based image data from the image sensor (108), and executes ridge enhancement operations through convolutional filtering implemented in the neural processing unit (112). The apparatus (100) generates enhanced ridge imagery representing contactless acquisition of fingerprint ridge deposits at the working distance, enabling forensic quality verification at the evidence surface without physical contact or laboratory processing.
