MUMBAI, India, Aug. 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641091709 A) filed by Kongu Engineering College on July 29, 2026, for Portable Food-Storage Apparatus With Autonomous Access Restriction For Unsafe Food Conditions.

Inventors include Ms. P Santhiya; Dr. R. Rajkumar; Dr. S. Malliga; Ms. R. S. Shudapreyaa; and Mr. Abishek Ramaswami.

The application for the patent was published on July 31, 2026, under issue no. 31/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a portable food-storage apparatus (100) comprising a food-storage enclosure (102) defining a food compartment (104), an environmental sensing unit (106), a volatile gas sensing unit (108), a food-storage duration tracking unit (110), a controller (112), an electromechanical locking assembly (114) including a lock actuation mechanism (116), a guardian communication interface (118), an authenticated access control unit (120), and a sensor airflow chamber (122). The controller (112) receives environmental, volatile gas, and storage-duration measurements to identify an unsafe food-storage condition and automatically actuates the electromechanical locking assembly (114) to restrict access to the food compartment (104). The guardian communication interface (118) communicates the unsafe condition to an authorised external device, while the authenticated access control unit (120) restores access only upon successful authentication. The coordinated interaction of the structural components provides early identification of unsafe food-storage conditions, physical access restriction, remote notification, and authenticated access restoration.
