Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a portable computer vision–based system and method for determining a whiteness index of rice grains in real time. The system comprises an enclosed housing providing standardized imaging conditions, a controlled illumination unit, a sample holding tray, and an image capture unit configured to acquire images of rice grains. A processing unit processes the captured images to extract color parameters and compute a numerical whiteness index. The system is operatively connected to a computer application executed on a smartphone or web-enabled electronic device for displaying and storing the computed whiteness index. The invention provides an objective, rapid, and portable solution for rice grain quality assessment without the need for laboratory-based equipment. FIG. 1
