The application for the patent was published on July 24, 2026, under issue no. 30/2026.
Abstract: A portable apparatus and method for determining soil characteristics are disclosed. The apparatus comprises a rigid confinement tank 101 configured to receive an undisturbed soil block 102, an interface layer 103, a base plate assembly 104, a progressive insertion mechanism 105 for inserting base plate 104 beneath the soil block 102, a self-reacting loading frame 106 mounted on the confinement tank 101, and a measurement system for recording settlement. The loading frame 106 and base plate assembly 104 form a closed internal load transfer path, eliminating need for external reaction systems. The method includes isolating an undisturbed soil block 102, confining the soil block 102 within the tank 101, progressively inserting the base plate 104 beneath the soil block 102, applying incremental loads using the self- reacting loading frame 106, and measuring settlement to determine bearing capacity and load-settlement characteristics under controlled boundary conditions.
