Abstract: This invention describes a small ECG monitoring system built from low-cost parts and intended for both practical use and teaching. An AD8232 ECG module picks up a single-lead heart signal, which is sampled by an ESP8266 microcontroller and sent as simple text records over a USB-serial link to a laptop. On the laptop, a Python program removes baseline drift and noise from the signal, filters it in a suitable frequency band, suppresses mains hum and then detects individual heartbeats using standard R-peak detection methods. A desktop application shows the raw signal, the cleaned signal and the same signal with detected beats marked, together with basic heart-rate and quality information. The system works fully offline, can be assembled at low cost, and is meant to give students and users a clear, hands-on view of how ECG processing works in practice.
