Abstract: The present invention relates to a portable artificial intelligence-based system for smartphone-assisted cataract detection and screening, designed to enable rapid, accessible, and non-invasive preliminary assessment of cataract conditions. The system comprises a smartphone camera, an illumination unit, an image acquisition module, an image preprocessing module, an artificial intelligence-based image analysis module, and a user interface. The smartphone camera captures images of the subject's eye under controlled illumination conditions, and the image preprocessing module enhances the captured images by reducing noise, correcting illumination variations, and identifying the relevant ocular region. The artificial intelligence module analyzes extracted image features to identify cataract-related visual characteristics and generates a cataract detection result with a corresponding confidence score. The system further provides an interpretable screening output indicating a suspected cataract condition and recommending further ophthalmic examination when required. The portable configuration enables the system to operate using commonly available smartphones, thereby supporting preliminary cataract screening in clinics, primary healthcare centers, remote locations, and community healthcare settings. The invention facilitates low-cost, rapid, and accessible cataract screening while assisting healthcare personnel in early identification and referral of individuals requiring comprehensive ophthalmic evaluation.
