Abstract: The present invention relates to porous catalyst layers comprising a metal nanoparticle loaded porous carbon structure, wherein the porous carbon structure is assembled from porous spherical carbon particles with a particle size dispersity (Ð) of 1.2 or less, and with a templated pore size with a templated pore size dispersity (Ð') of 1.2 or less. The invention further relates to the method of production of such porous catalyst layer, electrodes obtained from such porous catalyst layers and their use in fuel cells or electrolysers.
