Abstract: The present invention relates to a polyherbal antifungal cream comprising ethanolic extracts of Acalypha indica and Azadirachta indica in combination with clove oil and cinnamon oil for topical treatment of fungal skin infections. The composition further comprises stearic acid, cetyl alcohol, potassium hydroxide, glycerine, methyl paraben, propyl paraben and water to form a stable cream formulation. The ethanolic extracts are prepared by Soxhlet extraction of dried leaves using about 90% ethanol, followed by concentration and drying to obtain phytoconstituent-rich extracts. The cream is prepared by forming separate oil and aqueous phases, followed by emulsification and cooling to obtain a to obtain the polyherbal antifungal cream. The composition comprises phytochemical constituents including alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, glycosides, terpenoids, proteins, carbohydrates, phenols, steroids and liminoids. Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) analysis confirms the presence of hydroxyl, aliphatic hydrocarbon, carbonyl, aromatic and C–O functional groups associated with the herbal constituents. The formulation exhibits a pH ranging from about 5.8 to about 6.5 and a viscosity ranging from about 18,000 cP to about 21,000 cP, while remaining substantially free from phase separation. The polyherbal antifungal cream exhibits antifungal activity against Candida albicans, Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus and Trichoderma rubrum, thereby providing an effective topical formulation for the prevention and treatment of fungal skin infections.
