Abstract: A submerged, multi-stage filtration system captures suspended solids from a water source. The filtration system includes an intake filter subsystem fluidically coupled to the water source and to at least one pump, the intake filter subsystem configured to receive a flow of source water, capture suspended non-living solids and living solids from the flow of source water, and produce a flow of filtered water. In a first operating mode, the filtered flow of water is provided along a first fluid pathway to produce filtered water at a first system outlet; and in a second operating mode, the filtered flow of water is provided along a second fluid pathway to wash captured non- living solids and living solids into the collection subsystem and release living solids through a second system outlet back into the water source.
