MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641111289 A) filed by Dhyan Murthy on September 16, 2026, for Pollenscope – A 3d-Printed, Foldscope-Inspired Microscope System For Automated Detection, Classification, And Monitoring Of Airborne Pollen.

Inventor includes Dhyan Murthy.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a portable digital microscope system for automated detection, classification and monitoring of pollen. The system comprises a modular 3D-printed frame, an adjustable specimen stage, an illumination source, a micro-lens optical assembly, a digital camera module and an embedded processing unit. The optical assembly magnifies pollen-containing specimens to enable acquisition of microscopic images by the camera module. The processing unit executes an image- processing pipeline for preprocessing acquired images, segmenting candidate pollen grains, detecting individual grains, extracting morphological descriptors and automatically classifying the grains according to characteristics including shape, dimensions, contour and surface features. The system determines pollen counts and may generate corresponding pollen-density classifications. Measurements may be time-stamped, geographically tagged and stored for temporal and spatial pollen monitoring. Multiple pollen sampling techniques including plant-source, passive air and tape sampling are supported. The system thereby provides a compact, field- deployable platform for automated and localized pollen surveillance without requiring continuous manual microscopic observation.
